Young people will thrive through being visible, active and empowered within their community.

Y.Engage is a youth engagement program for the Inner North and Gungahlin regions of the ACT. The program is delivered in partnership with Anglicare ACT and Northside Community Service.

The Y.Engage team utilises a range of strategies to engage vulnerable and in need young people aged 12 to 25, who are unlikely to have strong connections with their family or other primary and secondary services. Y.Engage team members actively engage and transition young people towards a strengthened support network, or to services that will meet their individual needs.

The Y.Engage team provide open street outreach and open access in-reach activities at various locations in Canberra’s North.

You can find them at the Youth Engagement Space at Club 12/25 in Civic which is located on the ground level, next to the City Skate Park and Canberra Centre. The space has drop-in facilities such as  computers and printers for school, work or job applications or use the free internet to use Facebook. There’s also free pool and table tennis tables,  art supplies and a stocked fridge. Not to mention a variety of programs that are available during our opening hours: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday, 2pm to 5pm, and Fridays from 2pm to 6pm.

This is a place for young people to receive support and assistance, participate in games and activities or simply chillax with friends. The Youth Engagement Space is staffed by workers from a variety of youth specific programs who are fun and approachable, and always available for a chat or a game.

Outreach activities include: Sports @ Harrison School Gym on Mondays 3.30-5.30 pm (during school term) and Dickson BBQ (First Friday of every month, outside Dickson Library).

Other activities include undertaking Road Ready Training and being involved in competitions. Events are also held, including band nights and social groups – such as a Young Mother’s Group.

Band nights are really well supported, and upcoming bands who would like exposure are always encouraged to book in to play at the venue.

Support and assistance with any and all matters is also available from writing resumes to being able to use a phone. Those needing assistance are encouraged to speak to the staff. Bathroom facilities and a washing machine and dryer are also available to use for free.

For more information on any of our activities you can email y.engage@anglicare.com.au, call 02 6232 2401 , or drop by the Youth Engagement Space and say hi!
