Since April 2014, Northside has been working as part of a targeted team comprising of both ACT Government and community sector partners to respectfully and genuinely engage with individuals and families residing in high and medium density public housing sites earmarked for development under the Public Housing Renewal Program.

Our Community Engagement team is on the ground each week at the inner north complexes earmarked for redevelopment. In addition to Community Development activities such as site tours, community BBQs and health clinics, the team are there to provide personal support, relocation assistance and advocacy to any tenants who request support.

Why is our team so invested in this project?”

You cannot possibly commence any type of project with the words ‘Tenant Relocation’ in the title without having a clear understanding about the importance of respecting an individual’s concept of Home.  By the time this project is finished more than 1200 individuals and families will have been moved out of their homes and into new houses, streets, communities and regions.

Northside has long standing relationships with the communities within Canberra’s Inner North. Our core business is to support people and communities to thrive. Not just live day to day. Not just get by, but to actually thrive, participate and connect. Many of the people who have been, and will be, impacted by the redevelopment of public housing assets in the ACT have made a home for themselves, if not in the property then in their networks, friendships and communities.

The Northside team is incredibly proud to be part of a dedicated team of partner agencies, government and non-government alike, working to make sure that tenants impacted by the relocation are engaged and consulted in a respectful and meaningful manner. The ultimate outcome for us is that if we are exceptional in this regard then tenants will come through the process feeling like their circumstances, including their housing situation, has changed for the better.
